20th Anniversary of the Polonia Choir of Edmonton Gala Concert
Kabaret Kupala Night
An intensive season in the life of our choir came to an exuberant end with two special events celebrating Polonia Choir’s 20th anniversary. Our Gala Concert, with a reception afterward, was held at the Campus St Jean theatre, on June 8. Midsummer Night Cabaret, with supper and dance was held at the Polish Hall, on June 15. At the Gala, we were honoured with the presence of Mary Lou Wyrobek, the President of the Polish Singers Alliance of America (PSSA). Mary Lou flew in all the way from Buffalo, New York, in order to deliver a certificate of achievement to our director Oksana Ostashevska.
We were also honoured by the presence of Edmonton’s Honorary Consul, Mr. Frank John Szumlas, who presented our beloved director Oksana Ostashevska with Odznaka Honorowa “Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej” – awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland for distinguished contributions to the Polish culture and heritage. Andrzej Labedz was decorated in a similar manner.
At the Cabaret, Calgary’s Honorary Consul, Mr. Zygmunt Potocki delighted us with his flattering address. We were also touched by the presence of representatives of other Polish community organizations.
